Tiles from Panchos Restaurant in Fort Worth
Collectibles / by David Griggs / 159 views
I was fortunate to be at the right place at the right time when they were demolishing the old Panchos restaurant on Granbury rd in Fort Worth.
I pulled in and asked for the foreman.
I asked if I could save the tiles if I stay out of your way and not hinder your work.
He said sure but some of the tiles had already been destroyed – lost forever.
I grabbed my saw with a diamond blade and started cutting the concrete that held these beautiful one of a kind tiles.
What I thought was going to be an easy job, turned into 2 days of painstaking work in the August sun.
A lot of the tiles cracked and some shattered but I was determined to save them all. My wife and I had been regulars at this restaurant for 30 years. They were sentimental to us.
Over the next few weeks I carefully pieced this fragile puzzle back together.
I mounted the tiles on concrete board with strong adhesive, grouted and sealed them.
There are only a few noticeable cracks, my wife says it gives them character, overall they are beautiful and Colorfull.
